Lately, it feels like sport has been everywhere.
The World Cup fever, the Dragons getting a win at Kogarah, the Wallabies taking on Ireland, my kids’ weekend sport, and my own over 35s football team. It has been a full-on mix of passion, emotion, drama, frustration, joy and energy.
At times, I have felt completely sportsed out.
But it has also reminded me why sport is so powerful. It brings people together. It gives us something to look forward to. It makes us feel alive, connected and switched on.
The good news is, you do not need to be a professional athlete to feel those benefits.
Regular movement and exercise can help you boost your energy, sharpen your focus and improve the way you feel day to day.
Energy Creates Energy
It is easy to think that when we feel tired, the best thing to do is stop.
Sometimes rest is exactly what we need. But often, especially when we feel flat, sluggish or mentally drained, movement is the thing that helps us reset.
A short strength session, a walk, a stretch, a bike ride or a game with the kids can help wake the body up and clear the mind.
Exercise increases blood flow, gets oxygen moving around the body and helps release chemicals that improve mood and energy.
That is why so many people say, “I nearly didn’t come today, but I’m so glad I did.”
They rarely regret the session once it is done.
Movement Helps You Focus
Exercise is not just about muscles, weight loss or fitness.
It also has a huge impact on the brain.
When we move regularly, we often think clearer, concentrate better and handle stress more effectively. That is why a good training session can change the whole tone of your day.
You walk in feeling tired, busy or distracted.
You walk out feeling sharper, calmer and more in control.
For many of our members, training is not just something they do for their body. It is something they do to feel better mentally and emotionally as well.
Sport Reminds Us What Energy Feels Like
One of the best things about sport is the emotion.
The nerves before the game. The frustration when things do not go your way. The joy of a win. The lessons from a loss. The connection with teammates, family and friends.
That same feeling does not have to stop when the game ends.
You can create your own version of it through regular movement.
It might be lifting weights twice a week. It might be joining a group session. It might be walking every morning. It might be playing golf, tennis, football or simply being active with the grandkids.
The goal is not to train like a professional athlete.
The goal is to keep yourself in the game.
Start Small, Stay Consistent
If your energy has been low lately, do not overcomplicate it.
Start with something simple.
Book in two strength sessions per week. Go for a 20-minute walk. Stretch while watching TV. Get outside in the fresh air. Choose one thing you can do consistently.
The biggest mistake people make is waiting until they feel motivated.
More often than not, motivation comes after action.
You move first, then you feel better.
Get Back in Your Own Game
Sport gives us so much to enjoy. The passion, the drama, the excitement and the community.
But it should also remind us to look after our own health and energy.
Because life is more enjoyable when you feel strong, focused and capable.
So this week, do not just sit back and watch the energy.
Create it.
Get moving, get active and get back in your own game.
