For many people entering the fitness industry, becoming a personal trainer starts with a love of training.
But being a great coach is about much more than enjoying the gym.
It’s about understanding people, learning how the body moves, developing your communication skills and helping someone achieve things they may not have thought possible.
And like any profession, becoming a great coach takes time.
Personal Training Should Be a Career, Not Just a Job
One of the challenges within the fitness industry is that talented trainers often leave before they have the opportunity to develop.
They complete their qualifications, start working and are suddenly expected to find their own clients, build a business, manage a schedule and become an exceptional coach at the same time.
We believe there should be another pathway.
At Live Well, we’ve always wanted to create an environment where coaches can concentrate on becoming better coaches.
That means learning from experienced trainers, working alongside a team, receiving feedback and gradually taking on more responsibility as their skills develop.
Great Coaches Are Developed
You don’t need to walk into a personal training studio knowing everything.
In fact, we’d be concerned if you thought you did!
Some of the best coaches are naturally curious. They want to understand why an exercise works, why someone moves differently and how a program can be modified to suit the individual standing in front of them.
Technical knowledge matters, but so do the qualities that are harder to teach.
Listening. Empathy. Reliability. Attention to detail. Communication. And genuinely caring about people.
Combine those qualities with mentoring and experience, and you have the foundations of an excellent personal trainer.
There’s More to Fitness Than Six-Packs
Our average member at Live Well is around 55 years old.
For many of them, training isn’t about getting ready for the beach.
They want to remain strong enough to travel, play with their grandchildren, continue playing sport, manage health challenges and maintain their independence as they get older.
That creates a very different coaching experience.
You might help someone perform their first pain-free squat. You might help someone regain confidence after an injury. Or you might help a person in their 70s become stronger than they were in their 60s.
Those wins can be incredibly rewarding.
A Pathway to Grow
Live Well started as one studio and has grown to three locations across Sydney, with plans to continue growing.
As the business grows, we want our coaches to grow with it.
That can mean progressing from a new coach to a more experienced trainer, taking on full-time hours, mentoring other coaches, helping manage a studio or eventually playing a bigger role within the business.
We want people who aren’t simply looking for their next PT shift.
We’re interested in people who want to build a career in fitness.
Could That Be You?
You don’t need to be the strongest person in the gym.
You don’t need thousands of Instagram followers.
And you certainly don’t need to know everything.
We’re looking for coaches who are willing to learn, care about people and want to continually improve their craft.
If you’re a qualified personal trainer in Sydney looking for an environment where you can develop your coaching skills and build a long-term career, we’d love to hear from you.
