Sprinting is a form of high-intensity running for a short distance which is usually performed at a max or high effort.

Sprinting focuses on speed and power. Sprinting has many benefits such as it builds fast twitch muscle fibers, improves heart rate, improves reaction time, and helps your bones grow stronger as it is classified as a weight bearing exercise. Sprint training enhances overall athletic performance. Not only does sprint training improve physically, but also can improve one’s mental well being, and clarity. 

Intense running for short distances helps to build and preserve muscle mass.

One’s muscle composition declines as one grows older if they do not exercise their muscles regularly but sprinting may be your answer to this problem! 

Sprints will improve your heart as you will allow this muscle to pump more blood which will reduce your resting heart rate.

This improves blood flow, and oxygen delivery to the other muscles in the body. Short bursts of running also helps the heart adapt to different intensities and can also help with endurance. 

This weight bearing training will strengthen the bones and help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis which is more common as one grows older.

Balance and coordination are also benefits that come from sprinting and weight bearing exercises which are needed for daily activities, such as cleaning your house! 

Sprinting also has many benefits to one’s mental wellness as it increases the endorphins in one’s brain, which reduces stress, sadness. It improves one’s energy level and mood in a holistic way. Endorphins are known as your body’s “natural painkillers” and exercising is a natural way to get your endorphins flowing and sprints even 20 to 30 seconds is a quick way to enhance these happy chemicals in your brain to put you in a good mood. Who wants to be in a bad mood?
